Series 1: “IN DREAMS, I TALK WITH YOU”

A series of screenings in South Florida hosted by the Miami-Dade Public Library’s AV Club, all in tribute of filmmaker David Lynch in the weeks following his death. The screenings were hosted by Katharine Labuda (MDPL’s AV Club) and Juan Barquin (Flaming Classics) and take place through the months of February and March, pairing 16mm film prints with lectures and conversations around David Lynch, his work, his contemporaries, and his influences.

  • INFLUENCES AND FAVORITES
    16mm shorts: Suzan Pitt’s Asparagus, which screened with Eraserhead in its original release; Maya Deren’s Meshes of the Afternoon; Germaine Dulac’s The Seashell and the Clergyman; and a Woody Woodpecker short in honor of Lynch’s doll collection.
  • MONSIEUR HULOT’S HOLIDAY
    Stand-alone screening of Jacques Tati’s feature on 16mm.
  • GOTTA LIGHT? 
    16mm shorts: Stan Brakhage’s Mothlight and The Wold Shadow; Tony Conrad’s The Flicker; Paul Sharits’ T,O,U,C,H,I,N,G; and Peter & Joan Foldès’ A Short Vision. This screening also included a discussion featuring an assortment of David Lynch’s commercial, television, and music video work.

Series 2: “LIVE, LAUGH, LOVE – A PRIDE SHOWCASE”

A Pride Month screening at the Main Library featuring three documentary short films on 16mm following queer subjects. Shorts included were: Silent Pioneers, David Roche Talks to You About Love, Lavender.

PSYCHO BEACH PARTY
Programmed as Flaming Classics, with drag performance by Jupiter Velvet, in collaboration with Outshine Film Festival. Digital screening.

Series 3: “SURREALIST SUMMER”

Playing off of the David Lynch screenings I organized earlier in the year, this is a series of screenings loosely built around surrealism in cinema and the wide range of experimentation and creativity that can exist within that loose term. All prints are sourced from Miami-Dade Public Library, except where otherwise cited.
